Fedor Emelianenko Retiring?

Fedor Emelianenko shocked MMA fans across the world this Saturday at the Strikeforce Heavy Weight Grand Prix tournament after a devastating loss to Antonio Silva. With his right eye swollen shut and his face badly bruised the legend Fedor Emelianenko announced that it may be time to retire.

“Yes, maybe it’s the last time. Maybe it’s high time,”

Said Fedor through an interpreter. With fans in the crowd clearly upset at what they were hearing Fedor went on to say.

“I spent a great, beautiful, long sport life. Maybe it’s God’s will.”

MMA fans around the globe are not ready to see their legend leave just yet. There may be hope that we haven’t seen the last of Fedor, Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker spoke about Fedor’s decision, saying he believes that Fedor will return and if someone falls out of the tournament he may get a chance as an alternate.

“You know how that goes. People get very emotional during a fight and we’ll see. My position is we have many more fights with Fedor and I think he’ll honor his contract,” Coker said.

“There’s absolutely a possibility that he could be a replacement. There could be an injury and we could get Fedor back in the tournament, but either way he’ll be fighting high-level competition.”

Another man whogives us hope Fedor is not finished yet is his manager and very close friend Vadim Finkelstein. Vadim feels Fedor is not finished yet and that fans have not seen the last of him just yet.

“I think Fedor was just really upset that he lost the fight because he was so, the way the fight finished, because he was so prepared for the fight. I don’t think it was a clear-cut loss. If it doesn’t get stopped by the doctor, we don’t know what would have happened in that third round. Because of that I think we will see Fedor return,” Finkelstein stated.

Finkelstein says ultimately it is Fedors decision but in his opinion fans haven’t seen the last of the Last Emperor.

UFC 126 Anderson Silva eager to remind UFC fans that he is capable of more then just fancy ring dancing and taunting came into the octagon with bad intentions. Without so much as even breaking a sweat the champ landed a vicious front kick square on the jaw of Vitor Belfort snapping back Vitor’s neck and knocking him out cold. Anderson Silva (28-4) remains the middleweight champion.

The fight started slowly but ended violently as Silva knocked his Brazilian rival senseless.

After the fight Silva mentioned that he had been working on the winning front kick with famous actor and martial artist Stephen Seagal.

“He actually helped me perfect it,” Silva said though his manager Ed Soares.

Seagal was lucky enough to witness the winning kick in person live form the audience.

“I thought ‘man, he did exactly what I had asked him to do and I was very proud of him,”‘ said Stephen.

With this latest victory for Anderson it leaves us thinking could a UFC super fight featuring Anderson Silva and Georges St. Pierre be in the very near future?

“I know I can beat him if I’m ready when I step into the Octagon. It’s just a matter of doing what you’re capable of doing, and I think I’m capable to go there and fight and get the win.”
No matter what happens in the UFC 126 main event on Saturday night in Las Vegas, to many people, 33-year old middleweight challenger Vitor Belfort will always be 19.

Belfort to veteran fans is remembered as the 19 year old “Phenom”, who dominated the early days of the UFC with Knock out victories over Tra Telligman, Scott Ferrozzo, Tank Abbott, and Wanderlei Silva. When asked about watching his past fights Belfort had this to say.

“I watch them sometimes,” said Belfort of his first UFC bouts. “But I don’t like to see myself on video.”

Belfort is quick to point out that he is not the same fighter he was back then. He has totally evolved into a well rounded MMA fighter his style is much different then his earlier fights of wild flailing fists with little technique.

“I know I’m capable of using my experience now,” he said, making it clear that while the power and speed remains, the reckless part of his personality and fighting style is gone. “It’s part of the job. Sometimes you can score a touchdown, sometimes you can’t. But we always can do better. We have to be a better man, a better athlete, a better father, a better everything every day. We always have to improve.”

Belfort will need to utilize all his skills tomorrow night as he squares off against Anderson Silva, the middleweight champion who has up until now dominated the division crushing everyone in his path. His record speaks for itself as 12-0 which is a record number of middleweight title defense fights.

with a record number of middleweight title defenses and an unbeaten 12-0 slate in the Octagon. Belfort doesn’t have much to say about Silva, simply cutting it down to “Anderson is a pretty tough fighter. He’s improving every time he steps in the Octagon, and he’s the champion.”

Belfort is not worried though and seems very optimistic about the fight and his future in the UFC.

“I always live for the future,” he said. “I’m always looking forward to what is next, and what is next is the title. I’m very happy I have this opportunity, and I’m training hard, I’m doing my job, so on February 5th I can put everything I’m doing now in action. I want to leave the Octagon saying that I did everything I could. I know I’m fighting a champion, a guy who’s one of the best, pound for pound, in the world, and I’m prepared to go in there and do my thing. And that’s the point of life. You have to be better than yesterday.”

Fedor Emelienanko will be returning to the ring next week for the Strikeforce Grand Prix in New Jersey. Fedor will be facing off against Antonio Silva and was more then willing to share his thoughts on the fight, the Strikeforce tournament, and his recent loss to Fabricio Werdum:

“I wanted to finish the fight with Werdum early and I made a mistake. I have moved past this and have been training hard. If we were to face each other again, I will approach this in the same way I do for every contest. Silva is a great athlete who is skilled in many areas. He has proven to be a very worthy and dangerous opponent. My training camp has been very strong. I feel proud to be representing my country in the tournament. I’m training to win the tournament. As for whether the winner should be considered number one in the world, it is not for me to say. That is something left to the media and to the fans.”

UFC 126 Silva vs Belfort looks to a very promising match up between veteran middleweight champion Anderson Silva and former UFC champion Vitor Belfort. During the UFC 126 weigh ins Silva and Belfort engaged in what could quite possibly be the most epic stare down in mma history since the old pride days with Rampage Jackson and Wanderlei Silva.
