Fedor Emelianenko Retiring?

Fedor Emelianenko shocked MMA fans across the world this Saturday at the Strikeforce Heavy Weight Grand Prix tournament after a devastating loss to Antonio Silva. With his right eye swollen shut and his face badly bruised the legend Fedor Emelianenko announced that it may be time to retire.

“Yes, maybe it’s the last time. Maybe it’s high time,”

Said Fedor through an interpreter. With fans in the crowd clearly upset at what they were hearing Fedor went on to say.

“I spent a great, beautiful, long sport life. Maybe it’s God’s will.”

MMA fans around the globe are not ready to see their legend leave just yet. There may be hope that we haven’t seen the last of Fedor, Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker spoke about Fedor’s decision, saying he believes that Fedor will return and if someone falls out of the tournament he may get a chance as an alternate.

“You know how that goes. People get very emotional during a fight and we’ll see. My position is we have many more fights with Fedor and I think he’ll honor his contract,” Coker said.

“There’s absolutely a possibility that he could be a replacement. There could be an injury and we could get Fedor back in the tournament, but either way he’ll be fighting high-level competition.”

Another man whogives us hope Fedor is not finished yet is his manager and very close friend Vadim Finkelstein. Vadim feels Fedor is not finished yet and that fans have not seen the last of him just yet.

“I think Fedor was just really upset that he lost the fight because he was so, the way the fight finished, because he was so prepared for the fight. I don’t think it was a clear-cut loss. If it doesn’t get stopped by the doctor, we don’t know what would have happened in that third round. Because of that I think we will see Fedor return,” Finkelstein stated.

Finkelstein says ultimately it is Fedors decision but in his opinion fans haven’t seen the last of the Last Emperor.

Fedor Discusses Upcoming Strikeforce Fight and Loss to Werdum

Fedor Emelienanko will be returning to the ring next week for the Strikeforce Grand Prix in New Jersey. Fedor will be facing off against Antonio Silva and was more then willing to share his thoughts on the fight, the Strikeforce tournament, and his recent loss to Fabricio Werdum:

“I wanted to finish the fight with Werdum early and I made a mistake. I have moved past this and have been training hard. If we were to face each other again, I will approach this in the same way I do for every contest. Silva is a great athlete who is skilled in many areas. He has proven to be a very worthy and dangerous opponent. My training camp has been very strong. I feel proud to be representing my country in the tournament. I’m training to win the tournament. As for whether the winner should be considered number one in the world, it is not for me to say. That is something left to the media and to the fans.”

Jason Miller apologizes for Strikeforce Nashville Brawl

“I would like to formally apologize to CBS, Strikeforce, and all fans of mixed martial arts for my role in the events following the Strikeforce: Nashville event. In retrospect, my timing could not have been worse to ask for my rematch with Jake Shields, and I take full responsibility for entering the cage and setting off a chain of events that cast a dark shadow on the sport. I’ve been a fighter and a fan of MMA for over 12 years, and would never do anything to intentionally tarnish the sport I’ve given my life to. In the excitement of the moment I let my emotions run high and made a bad choice that resulted in a debacle, for that, I sincerely apologize.”

Jason “Mayhem” Miller publicly apologized for entering the cage and demanding a rematch against Jake Shields during the Shields’s post-fight interview at last Saturday’s CBS telecast of “Saturday Night Fights” from the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. Team Gracie was not impressed by the childish act of “Mayhem” and decided to teach him a lesson in respect. Jason Miller was swarmed and beat down live on national TV.

Jake Shields, the current strikeforce middleweight champion will defend his title against Dan Henderson, who will be making his StrikeForce debut after just recently leaving the UFC. Henderson is the only fighter to hold two Pride championship titles.

Shields has won five of his last six fights all via submission, with an astonishing 85% of his landed strikes coming from the ground. He has been successful on 15 of 23 takedown attempts (65%), while opponents hit on six of seven takedowns against him.

Henderson has fought three champs in his last five fights including the likes of Anderson Silva, Quinton Jackson and Rich Franklin, going 3-2 overall. Opponents landed 42% of their arm strikes. Henderson has only been submitted just three times in his 32-fight career.

Henderson, a two-time Olympic wrestler, has some ground game himself, hitting on 6 of 14 takedown attempts, while stuffing four of his opponents eight takedown attempts.

Also featured on the card will be the highly anticipated Gegard Mousasi vs. Muhammad “King Mo” Lawal match.

Alistair Overeem vs Brett Rogers and Andrei Arlovski vs Antonio Silva StrikeForce May 15th

Two Heavyweight matchups between Alistair Overeem and Brett Rogers and Andrei Arlovski against Antonio Silva will be the driving force behind the Strikeforce event “St. Louis: Heavy Artillery” May 15 taking place at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis.

Pride Veteran and Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem returns for a non-title bout following a 30-month hiatus from Strikeforce. The 6-foot-5 Muay Thai Master has claimed seven victories in eight fights (1 No Contest) with wins in,Dream, Ultimate Glory, and K-1 in Japan. Overeem also participated in K-1’s kickboxing grand prix.

Rogers who was dominated by Fedor Emelianenko in his last bout “Fedor vs. Rogers” an event which attracted five million viewers during a live CBS broadcast.

Rogers, 29, earned his chance at the world’s No. 1 heavyweight by knocking out Arlovski at Strikeforce “Lawler vs. Shields” last June in St. Louis, Mo. The Minnesotan striker also holds wins over Jon Murphy and James Thompson.

Arlovski, a former UFC heavyweight champion, will look to make a come back from back-to-back knockouts against Rogers and Emelianenko in his sophomore effort with the promotion.

Strikeforce St. Louis “Heavy Artillery” will be broadcast live on Showtime.

M1 & Strikeforce Joining forces, Fedor returns

Strikeforce and M-1 Global are very close to completing their partnership. The two organizations will be co-promoting events together, and most importantly enabling the return of Fedor Emelianenko!

Scott Coker (CEO Strikeforce) said that an event headlining Fedor Emelianenko was expected for this June. Fedor is allegedly going to be matched up against Fabricio Werdum, an old friend from Pride FC.

The M-1 & Strikeforce combo have already had a taste of success together with their November event featuring Fedor Emelianenko vs. Brett Rodgers, over 4 million people watched it live on CBS.
