Anderson Silva is already looking for his next challenge after an anticipated victory at UFC 112.
The UFC middleweight champion mentioned wanting to cut weight and drop down to middleweight for a super fight against current champion Georges St. Pierre, according to an interview with Yahoo’s Kevin Iole.
“I’d like to test myself and I always love to take on new challenges,” Silva said in the interview. “It’s not that I want to go fight Georges St. Pierre for his title. There’s no doubt in my mind that he’s the reigning champion, the absolute champion, in that weight category. But I just want to test myself and see how I’d do at that weight.”
Silva said that if he did it, he’d have to do two fights at 170; one to make sure he could fight at thatweight, and the second a highly anticipated superfight with Georges St. Pierre.
Those who doubt Silva’s ability to cut that much weight are reminded he has fought at 167 pounds in Pride. Anderson has competed as a middleweight and light-heavyweight since his debut in the UFC in 2006, and often bulks up to 215-220 pounds on his off time between fights.
Silva is also considering the possibility of fighting as a heavyweight.
Although Silva’s body seems to be made for the185-pound and 205-pound divisions, it seems clear that he’s on the look out for that next big challenge after he defeats Demian Maia at UFC 112
