This time around Mauricio “Shogun” Rua made absolutely sure he would not get robbed by another fight going to the judges.

Rua defeated Lyoto Machida at 3:35 into the first round with a vicious knock out, making Shogun the new light heavyweight champion. The victory took place at UFC 113 “Machida vs. Shogun 2” on Saturday at the Bell Centre in Montreal.

For mma fans, it willgo down in history as the night Shogun took back what should have rightfully been his after UFC 104 where Machida took a controversial unanimous decision from Rua. Shogun, who dominated the Shotokan karate master with brutal leg kicks the first time they met, had to wait almost seven months for another shot at the title.

“Lyoto is a great fighter. He’s very good,” Rua said. “This time, instead of working and focusing so much on my kicks, I worked a lot on my hands so I could surprise him. I was happy with my new strategy.” -Shogun

Jon “Bones” Jones defeated Brandon “The Truth” Vera via TKO in the 1st round during Sunday nights UFC event on Versus.

Jones delivered a huge elbow to a downed Vera who immediately clenched in pain, giving referee Herb Dean no choice but to stop the mixed martial arts fight at 3:19 of the 1st round.

Jones (10-1) controlled the bout from the beginning, taking Vera down and keeping him on his back for the majority of the fight.

The event was the first for the UFC in the U.S. on the Versus Network.

At only 22 years of age, Jones is already making a huge name for himself in the UFC with his athleticism and unique style.
